Far life

Lichens and algae could be the first life forms we find on Earth-like exoplanets, by looking for their light signatures in a planet's distinctive colouring.

The Book of Barely Imagined Beings by Caspar Henderson is published in the UK by Granta and in the US by Chicago University Press. A German edition will be published by Matthes and Seitz and a French edition by Les Belles Lettres.

Most real creatures that we think we know embody wonders we have hardly dreamt of. And there are other beings, equally real, which for most of human experience have been beyond imagining. As Zhuangzi wrote some 2,300 years ago, “all the creatures in this world have dimensions that cannot be calculated.”
