The Book of Barely Imagined Beings

The Anthropocene extinction, human imagination, and what comes next

Most real creatures that we think we know embody wonders we have hardly dreamt of. And there are other beings, equally real, which for most of human experience have been beyond imagining. As the Chinese philosopher Zhuangzi wrote about 2,300 years ago, “all the creatures in this world have dimensions that cannot be calculated.”

The Book of Barely Imagined Beings will be published by Granta in October 2012. The author is the grateful recipient of a Roger Deakin Award from the Society of Authors and the Royal Society of Literature Jerwood Award for Non-Fiction.
